April Janel Johnson, Family Nurse Practitioner
April Johnson is a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner based in Edmond, Oklahoma, with a focused specialty in Rheumatology since 2016. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma
Health Sciences Center in 2003 and her Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Midwestern State University in 2013.
After nearly a decade of experience in rheumatology, April developed a profound passion for treating the whole patient-physically, mentally, and spiritually-through both rheumatology and primary care. This passion
inspired her to establish Joint Journey Clinic, a place that reflects her
commitment to personalized, holistic healthcare. Joint Journey Clinic is her pride and joy, created to bless lives and meet patients exactly where they are in their health journey.
April served on the Board of Directors for the Rheumatology Nurses Society (RNS) from 2020 to 2023 and was recently reappointed to the board. She also contributes to the development of continuing nursing education (CNE) content. In addition, she is an active member of the Rheumatology Advanced Practice Providers (RhAPP), the Association of Rheumatology Professionals (ARP) under the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), and the Association of Oklahoma Nurse Practitioners (AONP).
In 2023, April was featured on a national American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) podcast discussing Ankylosing Spondylitis, where she shared her clinical expertise and passion for patient-centered
care.
Outside of her professional life, April enjoys spending quality time with her husband Derrick-her partner since 2005-and their two daughters, Janelle and Jillian. She also cherishes time with close friends, loves trying out new recipes, volunteers in her community, and finds joy in creating a warm, welcoming home.

Maricela Lemus, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist
Maricela Lemus has been in the medical field for over 8 years, working as both a phlebotomist and medical assistant. She is truly passionate about caring for her patients and ensuring they receive the right treatment and support every step of the way.
Maricela met April Johnson, APRN, in 2023 at Variety Care while working as her Medical Assistant. Since then, she has worked closely with April at Joint Journey Clinic, contributing to the delivery of compassionate, patient-centered care.
Originally from Philadelphia and raised in Alabama, Maricela began her healthcare career in the South, gaining experience in both urgent care and primary care settings. Her heart, however, lies in primary care, where she values the opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients.
Outside of work, Maricela enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their two beautiful daughters. Together, they love cooking and making the most of their family time
